Innovating at the speed of thought

Introduction

Success does not come to those who wait for the perfect idea.

Success comes to those who roll their sleeves up, who take the idea they've got and who execute and learn so fast that they find their way to [and deliver] the perfect idea before the opportunity is lost.

Cloudize Founder & Director.

The valley of lost opportunity

We've probably all heard countless stories about failed projects, each seemingly with their own set of events, circumstances and reasons that contributed to the result. Ultimately, and without being uncompassionate or unkind, every one of these stories resulted in the same outcome - failure and a lost opportunity.

When you really break it down, the simple reality is that the idea was unable to be developed to its successful conclusion in time, and the opportunity associated with that idea was, therefore, lost.

Startup failure statistics give us excellent insight into how prevalent this problem is — after all, startups are simply projects or ideas on steroids.

Would it surprise you to know that over 90% of startups fail?

The critical question to explore is: Why?

The #1 reason startups fail is because they don't achieve product-market fit before their cash runs out.

In essence, they fail to achieve enough iterations to develop their idea into something that the market wants before the opportunity is lost and becomes another statistic in the valley of lost opportunities.

No idea is a born winner - every idea has to evolve and be developed.

The key to developing an idea to its successful conclusion (which in the startup world equates to product-market fit) is very simple.

You desperately need as many idea development iterations as possible.

Please note that I'm not talking about software development iterations here ... I'm talking about the number of iterations that you have to evolve your idea into something the market wants before the opportunity is lost.

If a [software development] iteration does not deliver an opportunity to advance or evolve your idea, then the iteration is lost in your available iteration count.

Please note: This does not mean your team didn't do very important and necessary work, but the simple reality is that the iteration did not advance your idea (which was the priority). When considering the number of available iterative cycles that your idea has to progress through its evolution towards product-market fit, this iteration represents a lost opportunity.

The more you are able to evolve your idea, the more likely you are to succeed.

Maximising your idea development iterations

There are three fundamental ways you can maximise your idea development iterations and, therefore, your odds of success.

  • Resources (essentially cash 💰)
  • Iteration Speed
  • Iteration Effectiveness

Cloudize is unfortunately not a bank, so we can't necessarily help you with the first (cash 😄), although, as you would have noticed from our pricing page, we are very good at structuring commercials that work for businesses of all sizes and stages. That said, we can help with the other two and are specialists in delivering our clients with the ability to iterate with increased speed and effectiveness.

Accelerating your innovation

We were recently asked what our superpower was;

That's such a great question.

Our superpower is that we enable our clients to innovate at extreme speed.

By combining our deep experience in designing and building world-class APIs with our advanced API technologies, we can generally deliver solutions that would typically take others many months to create within a week or two.

Imagine what you could do with all of that time!

As is the case for any business, we create the most value when we operate within our sweet spot - our area of core competency - which, in our case, is designing and building world-class API platforms. That certainly doesn't mean we can't and don't add value outside that core competency (after all, APIs are foundational cornerstones of integrated platforms). However, it is fair to say that clients who leverage our specialist capabilities as a force multiplier to augment their own internal capabilities do experience the greatest impact on their projects and their innovation journey.

In terms of how we're able to accelerate innovation so dramatically, the answer is essentially quite simple. Our specialist API Design Tooling [internal] and API Framework Technologies, together, leverage best-of-breed standards to ensure that every API we design and build is fundamentally secure, fast, flexible, feature-rich and scalable.

When you combine those capabilities with our experience in building world-class APIs, you get a solution where it is possible to:

  • experiment at scale [almost in real-time]
  • disrupt markets and establish first-mover advantage
  • leapfrog incumbents and competitors who have become mired in tech debt and traditional thought patterns
  • innovate at extreme speed
  • iterate towards PMF (product-market fit) with incredible agility

by:

  • repurposing the savings we offer into other user-centric areas [such as UX]
  • leveraging a standards-based framework that is fully tested and optimised
  • automating API documentation
  • making advanced security practices a design requirement
  • automatically optimizing the underlying database for extreme performance
  • delivering solutions on standardized infrastructure compliant with best practices
  • eliminating the need for performance hacks [such as BFF APIs]
